5 Song Mix Tape Post Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene

Well, the storm is over and the dig out begins.  Here’s a quick 5 song mix tape to get you through.  All covers too!

Didn’t It Rain – Sister Rosetta Tharpe.  A true rock n roll pioneer covers a song popularized by Mahalia Jackson.  Great guitarist too!

In From The Storm – Corey Glover with the London Metropolitan Orchestra.  Great cover of a lost Hendrix classic

The Wind Cries Mary – Cassandra Wilson.  Excellent Hendrix cover by an American treasure.

Wild Is The Wind – David Bowie.  The Thin White Duke covers Nina Simone.

Stevie Wonder – Blowin’ In The Wind.  Stevie covers Bob with brilliant results.

I hope everyone got through it ok.  Be well!

5 Song Mix Tape For The Rain # 4

A bit of a change up here.  This one deals with weather.  Again, trying to avoid the obvious and turn people onto something different.  Hope you’re enjoying listening to them as I am putting them together!

Change In The Weather – John Fogerty.  Always dug this one from his solo work – very CCR.  Amazing backup vocals by Bobby King and Terry Evans.

Bad Weather – The Supremes.  Great track from the post Diana Ross years.  Co-written by Stevie Wonder!  Thanks to Jimi Hazel of 24/7 Spyz for turning me onto this track!

Weather With You – Crowded House.  Great track from the Woodface album.  Neil Finn can write a damn good hook, can’t he?

The Pixies – Stormy Weather.  Solid track from Bossanova.

Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble – Couldn’t Stand The Weather.  Bad ass groove and killer riff.  Miss this dude a lot.  He was just coming into his own when he passed too.

5 Song Mix Tape For The Rain #3

Here’s another stab.  I’m having a lot of fun with this!

John Hiatt – Feels Like Rain.  One of the greatest songwriters ever.

Ann Peebles – I Can’t Stand The Rain.  Best version of a great song.

Alice In Chains – Rain When I Die.  Rest In Peace Layne & Mike Starr

In The Rain – The Dramatics.  Soul personified.

From the sublime to the…well, yeah…

Oran ‘Juice’ Jones – The Rain

Loving everyone’s feedback and their own suggestions/mix tapes!

Make It Rain – Tom Waits

Corey Glover – April Rain (from his painfully underrated solo album Hymns – find this album!)

The Temptations – I Wish It Would Rain

Walking In The Rain – The Ronettes

Be well everyone!

Mix Tape For The Apocalypse!

Saw the excellent selections of The Ron Bennington Mix Tape Challenge and found myself inspired.  With all of the craziness going on around the world, I put together one with a bit of an apocalyptic theme to it.  Hope you dig it.

The Band – This Wheel’s On Fire

Curtis Mayfield – If There’s Hell Below, We’re All Going To Go

Bob Dylan – Everything Is Broken

Charles Bradley – The World (Is Going Up In Flames)

It’s Over – Roy Orbison

If you’re not doing so (and why not?) listen to The Virus – Channel 105 on Sirius-XM Satellite Radio – starting with Opie & Anthony in the morning from 6-11am and Ron & Fez from 11a-3pm!
